Good Ol' South...

Last weekend I went to South Carolina with my friends Martha and Ben for my roommates wedding. It was a FUN trip. Here are some highlights...

1)Sonic. I LOVE Sonic. And for some reason, they don't have ANY within 1 1/2 hours of D.C. So we tried to take full advantage of everyone we passed- 3 to be exact. I got a 44 oz Strawberry Limeade Friday morning... and peed atleast 35 times in the next 2 days. Yikes.

2) Myrtle Beach. I have wanted to go to Myrtle Beach forever. So we went Friday morning- of course it was freezing and windy but we walked on the beach... until I had to find a bathroom. That was an adventure.

3) Piggly Wiggly. I have NEVER been so excited to go to a grocery store before. I had to buy something... southern. So I bought mix for Grits and Hush Puppies. I think I am in love with Hush Puppies.

4)Southern BBQ. Ben really wanted to try Southern BBQ. So when in Charleston, the visitors center lady told us about one... it was good but Ben was VERY disapointed. So after the wedding we went to Duke's in Walterboro. It was a real hole in the wall- but tasty- and all you can eat. That was where I had my first hush puppy. Yum... I want one now.

6) "South of the Border". It is south of the North Carolina border in South Carolina. I have NEVER seen so many billboards for one place. We decided to count them on the way home and there were 64. Within less than 100 miles. We all guessed before we started- I said 42, Ben said 37 and Martha said 100. We didn't stop- but next time- I will. Some of the billboards said:

Pedro's Weather Forecast: Chili today, hot tamale.
Keep America Green! Bring Money!
You Never Sausage a Place! You're Always a Wiener at Pedro's! **my favorite
Pedro's fire works! Does yours?

Sorry I didn't get a picture- next time.

7) and of course... the wedding. The temple was in Columbia and the reception was an hour away in Walterboro. The reception was one of the most interesting I have ever been to. It was an come and go- very small and simple- with a dance after. Ha ha. Good times. And good food. Her sister did all the food for a chocolate bar. Yum. Check out her blog for the yummy recipes.

Fun fun! I don't think I've ever had a hush puppy. Well I had the stuffed animal version..
